Editors letter – Issue 8

Bodies. We’ve all got them.

They’re our homes for life, in all their glorious shapes, sizes and colours. It doesn’t matter if you’re bi, pan, queer, straight, trans, cis, male, female, non-binary, agender, you’ve got a body that’s all yours to live in, even if there are still some quirks you’re learning to love as you go.

But bodies can be a tricky subject, and queer bodies are on a whole another level. Whether it’s fighting toxic ‘bro’ culture at the gym, navigating queer spaces with a disability, or tackling the healthcare system as a trans person, there are struggles aplenty. The queer community is not immune from pressure, beauty standards and expectations. Let’s be real, for some groups of people, it actually makes those things worse, making people feel like outsiders even within our rainbow band of glorious outcasts.

We’ve decided this issue that we need to celebrate everything that’s fabulous about queer bodies, in every way we can. We’re bringing you burlesque, we’re bringing you sport, we’re bringing you photography, drag, self-love – heck, we’re even bringing you furries. And to top it all off, we’ve got superstar model Rain Dove on board for a cracking interview as well.

This issue features bodies of all different genders, from different countries, continents and religions. We want to highlight queer humans in all their amazing forms, through all their struggles and triumphs. This issue, we’re celebrating being loud and proud, cuddly and lean, and everything in between.

So whether you’re doing star jumps with excitement, dressed to slay, or tucked in a comfy ball in your PJs with a pizza, we’ve got you covered. Oh, and watch out – there might be a few boobs too…

Lots of love,

Maddie (Community Editor)
